Below is a list of Bands that I remember listening to and actually enjoyed. Sure there are a few bands that were one hit wonders but in general they had at least one solid album that was worth something. Sorry for Country, Rap, Classic, Folk, and Opera. This page is about rock and roll with some blues thrown in. By the way, local bands "The Reach" and "Vinyl Grove" get a thumbs up from me.
So here goes the list with comments. They are not in ORDER.
Led Zeppelin-Jimmy, Robert, and the two John's ripped and shredded the Rock scene every year they played together. They influenced about everyone after them and had tons of variety.
Rush-I see them every chance I get and they are truly Canada's best band. Subdivisions is a super song. They take a little time for some to get used to them but for those that do they really are great.
Beatles-While not my favorite they did produce some of the greatest songs of all time.
Jimi Hendrix-Set a standard of invention for rock guitar. Crazy and hard core and simply out of the planet good. It was soooo amazing. Woodstock
Kinks-The Superman song pretty well made them awesome in my book.
The Tubes-She's a beauty. If you have not heard this song, do it.
Styx-Carry on my wayword BeechAboo. Sorry could not help it.
Neil Young-Sure he is depressing as heck but Hurricane is a song that is extra special. Acoustic Rock at its best.
Blue Oyster Cult-Donald Buck Dharma on guitar and the crazy Gozilla Song makes them rock. Don't fear the BeechAboo. Sorry,,,dang word is catchy.
BS/Ozzie-With Randy Rhodes and others this band is scary and they created "War Pigs".
Kings of Leone-Straight forward modern rock.
STP-Solid
Incubus-Hard core rock with solid lyrics.
Violent Femmes-Blister in the Sun. Ouch BeechAboo.
Judas Priest-Now that is Metal Madness. Free Wheel Burning....Ouch
Nirvana-they were solid and like PJ were part of a new style of rock.
Pink Floyd-Comfortably Numb pretty well describes them. Stylish and deep.
Fleetwood Mac-Great Album Rock and Stevie Nicks..Kitty Cat Purrrrr.
Pretenders-Love the Voice of Chrissy H. Brother played in band near Kent Ohio if I remember correctly.
The Doors-Not many records but they did some groovy rock.
Allman Brothers-That is some good ole country rock there.
Skynyrd-Light the lighter and party on Garth.
Pearl Jam-Grunge Rock that set the stage for many years.
ZZ Top-TUSH pretty well sets the stage for bearded guys singing.
Slow Hand-If I need to tell you who that is then you need to visit a site for people out of touch with great guitar players. You look wonderful tonight.
3 Doors Down-This modern band is really solid with great lyrics. Again, you sing a song with Superman or say Monkey you win my approval.
Tool-This hard rock band is truly one of my favorites and I feel kind of old to love this band but I don't care. They are serious bone crushing rock.
GNR-Early years. Slash ripped up some crazy guitar riffs and they laid it on the line with some really good gut wrenching rock.
Dave Matthews-Good Jam Band. We met Cater.
The Police-Cut your teeth on some good stuff. SNL Skit of Roxanne is great.
Bad Company-Remember holding the album in my hand as a child. Cool.
AC/DC-Never did a ballad and are straight forward rock. I listened to Back and Black for my entire senior year. They just keep rocking.
The Who-Come on, this band had it all. The guitar, the singing, and the crazy drum playing. Talking about my Generation.
Pat Benatar-Beautiful lyrics and voice. The Hell is for Children song is crushing and has everything that great music should have.
Joan Jett-While I am on the Girl Rockers why not double JJ. Sweetness
Jeff Beck-Guitar legend and member of so many great bands.
Joe Walsh-Kent State Alumni just like Me. Life's been good....
Eagles-With or without Joe they were awesome..Hotel BeechAboo...
Cream-In a White Room with Black Curtains. D. Gears was insane good.
Deep Purple-Space Truckin and My Woman from Tokyo. Real Rock 4 sure.
Van Halen-Early stuff (before red rocker) was on. Eddie smashed the Axe
- Beastie Boys-We got to FIGHT for the RIGHT to Party..Life Anthem. I typically do not like rap stuff but these dudes were classic. No sleep to Brokyln.
- Run DMC-Since I put the BB, they deserved a shout out..Walk this way...
- Cheryl Crow-Chillin music that works.
- Aerosmith-Not my favorite but dang it...they have lasted well. Walk this way.
- Boston-More than a Feeling. Cool Album Cover and original.
- Chicago-Great muscians added up to a great laid back drinking band.
- B52's-Just Kidding. I like a drink called the B52 not the lame band.
- Heart-The Wilson Sister's Rock and my Friend in Ohio hangs with them. Rock on Randy. They are truly rock royalty and the singing is AMAZING.
- Journey-Without all the other singers. Neil is great guitar player but I about threw up when I heard the new singer. Yes he sounds like Steve Perry but come on, that is like putting Sammy Hager in Van Halen...oops that happened.
- Jethro Tull-Sitting on a Park Bench...wearing a BeechAboo Shirt...funny
- Queen-Classic Rock with Unique sound. We are the Champions...
- Metallica-I really hate to list them because of their cry baby copying crap when in fact they copied radio songs on their cassette players like every kid of that generation. Because of this self righteous attitude I list them with asterik. If you like a band buy their music but the good old days of free TV and Radio are hard to beat.
- U2-Lots of interesting stuff with a cause.
- Genesis-Phil and the boys did some good arena rock. Progressive yet cool.
- Def Lepard-Pour some BeechAboo on me....yah yah...pour some BeechAboo.
- Steve Miller Band-Some Catchy lyrics and sounds that last a lifetime.
- Blondie-That was a great album Cover...You know the one!! Loved Rapture!
- Cheap Trick-Average live but album Live at Budokan. Fast times soundtrack.
More to come......
